New Information for KAT’s 2020-2021 Season Auditions

PLEASE READ THIS IN ITS ENTIRETY. WE ARE MAKING MAJOR CHANGES TO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS.

Due to continued limitations for in-person gathering, we are moving to a mostly virtual audition format this season. All paperwork and initial auditions will be submitted online. THE FINAL DEADLINE FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE NOON ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5TH, 2020.

Audition sign-ups will be made available by the end of June. Once you have signed up, you will be emailed instructions for your audition package. The sooner you sign up, the more time you will have to prepare your submission before the August 5th deadline.

We realize these changes are substantial and we will work with you to help you present the best audition possible. We hope that you will be flexible and patient as we navigate this new way of auditioning together. There may be need for additional changes down the road. If you have specific questions or concerns, please email them to pr@katonline.org.

Each show and age group will have a slightly different procedure. We will be casting many roles directly from the initial audition. If you do not receive a callback it does not mean that you will not be cast.

NOTE: If you are auditioning for multiple shows, some of the paperwork will be combined so you won’t have to complete it multiple times. If you are auditioning for both musicals, please record only one song as directed below; any musical theatre song that demonstrates your range is fine.

PLAY

Of Mice and Men: You will sign up for a half hour time slot on either of the evenings of August 5th and 6th. You will be held for that half hour in a Zoom waiting room until it is your turn to enter the audition room. Please prepare a 2 minute monologue for this audition.

Call backs, as needed and by invitation, will also be held via Zoom from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, August 8, 2020. Please plan to be available for the whole 3 hours.

MUSICALS

Matilda—Children:  You will register to audition through a Sign-Up Genius form that will be available by the end of June. Once you are registered, you will be emailed a packet which includes audition paperwork to be completed, an accompaniment track for recording scales, and a dance training video. You will learn the dance and record yourself performing it, record yourself singing the scales, and record a song in the style of the show with accompaniment, either piano or a backing track from the internet. No acapella auditions permitted. All Children auditioning, even if in the same household, must sign up individually and submit separate forms and videos. Deadline for uploading all these materials is NOON on Wednesday, August 5th, 2020.

  • Our choreographer will be holding a virtual Zoom meeting to teach the dance live and answer questions (optional attendance) for those that have registered to audition by July 16th. It will be held the evening of Friday, July 17th.
  • Singing and reading callbacks, as needed and by invitation, will be held via Zoom on Sunday, August 9th starting at 1:00 pm. Please be available for the rest of the day. Auditions will end when completed.

KAT’s COVID-19 Response (UPDATE)

Dear KAT Family and Friends:

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the cancellation of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None for this coming July. The Town of Kensington has closed the building through the summer months. We are hoping to remount the production in July 2021.

Thanks to everyone who invested their time and talents to this show.
If you purchased tickets, KAT will happily exchange your ticket(s) for our winter 2021 play, Of Mice and Men, or hold them for next July. If neither of these options work, we will refund your ticket purchase. For exchanges or refunds, please e-mail managingdirector@katonline.org. Of course we will also gladly accept the ticket cost as a donation to the theatre.

Taking care of the health of our community is extremely important to the Board of Directors of KAT. We will continue to monitor the situation and guidance from the CDC and will send and post additional updates if things should change.
