KENSINGTON ARTS THEATRE ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF KAT JUNIOR
Kensington, MD – Kensington Arts Theatre is proud to announce the undertaking of a new venture, KAT Junior, a musical theatre program that is currently open to students in grades 7 through 12. Programming will include full scale productions of popular musical theatre as well as master classes and workshops. It is the mission of KAT Junior to provide young artists with an opportunity to participate in creative expression through musical theatre, to encourage confidence and self esteem, and establish close and lasting relationships.
KAT Junior provides a safe learning environment with positive role models teaching open-mindedness and acceptance of others, while helping artists to be in tune with their emotions to inspire both individual expression and ensemble teamwork. KAT Junior teaches the positive impact of commitment and focus on a specific task, to accomplish something lasting and memorable, and to provide a strong skill set for future endeavors.
The first production was Les Miserables School Edition, and the second show will be Shrek, the Musical.

Darnell Patrick Morris is beyond excited to head this wonderful new program KENSINGTON ARTS THEATRE has to offer to its community. Darnell has been a Director, Choreographer and Theatre Educator in the Washington, DC area for the past 10 years. Select directing credits –KAT: Les Miserables, Ragtime, Jekyll & Hyde, The Rocky Horror Show. KAT 2ND STAGE: The Wizard of Oz, A Year with Frog and Toad, School House Rock Live, Willy Wonka, Pippin. STILLPOINTE THEATRE: Caroline or Change. BRAVO: Into The Woods JR, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR, The Music Man JR, Fiddler on the Roof JR. ANNAPOLIS SUMMER GARDEN THEATRE: Into the Woods, Avenue Q, Hairspray, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Select professional acting credits – WAY OFF BROADWAY DINNER THEATER: The Full Monty (Horse), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Bun Foo u/s performed), A Chorus Line (Richie). THE WASHINGTON SAVOYARDS: The Condensed Mikado (Pish Tush), Pirates of Penzance (Pirate/Cop), Babes in Toyland (Principal Dancer). Awards: 2014 Ruby Griffith Award for Les Miserables, 2013 Ruby Griffith Award for Avenue Q, 2012 Ruby Griffith Award for Hairspray, 2011 Ruby Griffith Award for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, 2009 Ruby Griffith Award for Pippin. Darnell’s production of Ragtime with KAT received several WATCH Awards including Best Choreography and Best Musical. Additionally Ragtime was named Best Community Theatre Production of a Musical in DC/MD/VA at broadwayworld.com.
