Kensington, MD – Kensington Arts Theatre is proud to announce the undertaking of a new venture, KAT Junior, a musical theatre program that is currently open to students in grades 6 through 9. Programming will include full scale productions of popular musical theatre as well as master classes and workshops. It is the mission of KAT Junior to provide young artists with an opportunity to participate in creative expression through musical theatre, to encourage confidence and self esteem, and establish close and lasting relationships.

KAT Junior provides a safe learning environment with positive role models teaching open-mindedness and acceptance of others, while helping artists to be in tune with their emotions to inspire both individual expression and ensemble teamwork. KAT Junior teaches the positive impact of commitment and focus on a specific task, to accomplish something lasting and memorable, and to provide a strong skill set for future endeavors.

KAT JUNIOR STAFF

PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR: Alison Siegel

alisonAlison Siegel (Producing Artistic Directorhas been involved in directing children’s theatre for nearly two decades. Many of her productions, including 2016’s Shrek JR, have been in Montgomery County Public Schools, where she currently teaches elementary general and vocal/choral music. Alison grew up in MoCo, where she performed as a child and young adult in groups like the MCPS Honors Choruses, MCRD Theatre Camps, and Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theatre. Her positive experiences inspired her to share her passion for the stage with a new generation of performers. As a teacher and director, Alison has worked with hundreds of young actors, singers, dancers, and technicians, several of whom have gone on to perform in high school, college, and on professional stages. She is excited to join the KAT team and looks forward to working with this year’s talented cast and crew.
