An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words hoping to never hear the soul crushing, pout inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.
|Matt Baughman (Vice Principal Douglas Panch) is happy to return to Putnam as an adult, but even MORE excited to be making his debut at KAT. Recent shows include Gutenberg! The Musical! |Nick Carter (Leaf Coneybear) is more than excited to be playing one of his dream roles, Leaf. Nick has a B.A. in theatre from Frostburg State University, where he focused on acting, directing, and stage management. He is currently working full for the AACPS Performing and Visual Arts Magnet High School as Production Manager, and Stage Management Mentor, while also choreographing Once Upon a Mattress at Old Mill HS. Recently, he was seen in 42nd Street and Spamalot at ASGT, and The Addams Family at KAT (where he received a WATCH nomination for his choreography). Thanks to his family and friends for their constant love and support.
|Teresa Danskey (Rona Lisa Peretti) is johackled to be joining the Spelling Bee team for her first KAT production. She is a high school Spanish teacher and Latin dance coach in DC, and finds her flow in musical theater, snobby coffee, dried mangoes, and exploring new destinations by foot. Recent theater credits include The Wedding Singer (Holly) and The Most Happy Fella (Cleo) with TAP.
|Emily Dey (Marcy Park) is happy to be back at KAT after having last performed in The Addams Family and as Wendla in Spring Awakening. DC: Keegan Theatre: Spring Awakening (Ensemble; Helen Hayes Nomination Best Ensemble); Signature: The Break (Katie/Female Ensemble), Giant (U/S Lil Luz); Regional: Northern Lights Playhouse; Education: Catholic University, BM, Musical Theatre. She would like to thank the cast, crew, and production staff for such a fun experience, and her family and friends for being awesome (especially her Mom for passing on her love of musicals).
|Dylan Echter (Chip Tolentino) is thrilled to be performing on the KAT stage again after appearing in Les Miserables last spring. He is a graduate of the College of William and Mary, where he studied music and sang with the Gentlemen of the College and Botetourt Chamber Singers. Other past credits include The Gondoliers (Marco), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Bun Foo), Armed Robbery for Dummies (Frank), and Arsenic and Old Lace (Teddy). |Emma Lord (Olive) is a semi-recent UVA grad who was last seen as Eponine in Les Miserables (RCP) and Wendla in Spring Awakening (UVA Drama). She frequently overshares writing on Bustle.com during daylight hours. She hopes you laugh as hard at her fellow cast members as she has so that you can also be in unexpected amounts of physical pain.
|Jonathan Miot (William Barfèe) is so incredibly proud to share the KAT space with such a talented group of performers and designers who’ve worked so hard to get us here!
