Board of Trustees

Craig Pettinati (Producing Artistic Director) established Kensington Arts Theatre (KAT) in 2002. He has been pleased to produce and perform award-winning musicals for twenty years. In an extremely competitive market, KAT has established itself as one of the most prestigious community theatre groups in the DC Metro area. KAT musicals have received hundreds of WATCH nominations and have taken home nine Best Production WATCH/Ruby Griffith Awards. KAT has launched two original musicals: Night of the Living Dead and Nevermore. Both shows have since gone on to be produced by professional theatre groups throughout the United States. KAT is also proud to say that we were the first community theatre in the DC metro area to produce Urinetown, Next to Normal, The Addams Family, and The Bridges of Madison County.
John Nunemaker (Managing Director) received his theatre training from Millersville University of Pennsylvania. After graduating, he worked as stage manager, lighting designer and actor at Gettysburg Stage for two seasons. During this time, as an associate member of their Board, John worked to purchase additional light instruments and a new light board. John left Gettysburg Stage when he moved to Maryland and became active with Bowie Community Theatre. John was Vice President and then President of Bowie Community Theatre from 2009 until 2014. While at Bowie, John worked to implement a new ticketing system, an updated website, and a volunteer appreciation activity.

Along with his work as President of Bowie Community Theatre, John continued to work behind the scenes and on stage when time allowed throughout the DC region. John began his tenure with KAT in 2010 when he stage managed Jekyll and Hyde and has been working with KAT ever since. In 2014, John became a member of the Board and is currently the Managing Director, previously holding the position of Production Manager. Recently, John has stage managed Out of Order, Daddy’s Girl, The Glass Menagerie, Murder My Misadventure, Avenue Q, Into the Woods, and Spamalot in theatres other than KAT. While at KAT, John has stage managed Jekyll & Hyde, Hair, Sunday in the Park with George, Next to Normal, and The Addams Family. John has directed shows throughout DC including Sordid Lives, Daddy’s Dyin’ Who’s Got the Will?, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, The Laramie Project, Two Rooms, Steel Magnolias, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and Oliver!
Jeff Clausen (Technical Director) was first exposed to theater while working as a stagehand with his sister's dance company. He later went to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, where he continued pursuing his event production interests as a lead technician, audio engineer, and lighting designer for touring concerts and Broadway shows. Following graduation, Jeff worked in the events industry as a freelance technician, and was eventually hired as technical director for a boutique events company specializing in business theater. Jeff has since founded his own company and continues working on corporate events and business conferences. Jeff has worked on many iconic events over the years (Smithsonian 150th anniversary celebration, Presidential Inaugurations) and with many well-known brands (Microsoft, HP, Forbes Magazine). When he's not working, Jeff also volunteers as a youth soccer coach and, with his wife Terri, parents their two young sons.
Doe Kim (Marketing and Public Relations) has been a part of KAT in some fashion since the very beginning and is happy to help with the relaunch after these difficult past few years. Some favorite moments include music directing Cabaret, tick, tick...BOOM!, Closer Than Ever; producing Nine, Urinetown (WATCH nomination, Little Shop of Horrors, RENT; performing in Side Show, Into the Woods, RENT, Closer Than Ever; and providing Special Effects for Sunday in the Park with George (WATCH award).
